Here are some tips to help you out at an interview.

Common interview questions

Tell me about yourself?

  • Educational and professional achievements
  • Professional goals
  • Give a brief description of your qualifications for the job and the contribution you could make

Why do you want to work here?

  • Answer this clearly and enthusiastically
  • Share what you know about the job and how your skills will be of benefit.

What are you going to do with the children all day?

  • The employer is looking to see how you will plan your day
  • They need to know that their children will be in a stimulating and fun environment

What have I forgotten to ask?

  • Use this as a chance to summarise your attributes and how they will benefit him/her
  • Convince the interviewers that you understand the job requirements

What is your major weakness?

  • Be positive. Turn a weakness into a strength.
  • For example, you might say “I often worry too much over my work”

What are you career goals and future plans?

  • Employers want to know if your goals and his/her goals are compatible
  • Let them know you are ambitious enough to plan ahead.
  • Talk about your desire to learn more and gain more experience.

Why did you leave your last job?

  • State your reasons
  • Be honest
  • Show that you can accept responsibility and learn from your mistakes
  • You may explain problems that you have had but do not describe the employer in negative terms
  • Demonstrate that it was a learning experience

What are your best skills?

  • If you have done your research, you should be able to imagine what skills the employer values.
  • List them, then give examples of how you have demonstrated these skills

What are your hobbies? Do you play any sport?

  • Employers may be looking to see what sort of skills you have outside of your professional experience.
  • Employees who have creative or athletic outlets for their stress are often healthier, happier and more productive.

What are you going to do if the child is sick?

  • Employers are looking to see if you will contact them immediately
  • If they are not available whom will you contact, apart from the doctor etc.
