Higher Level Skills

What is the Higher Level Skills Program?

The Higher Level Skills Program provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to complete Certificate IV level and above qualifications or priority skill sets. The aim is to assist people to gain the higher level skills required to secure employment, career advancement or transition to university in priority industries.

Vocational/work placement is required for all the above listed qualifications.
* Students must also be an existing worker in the community services, early childhood or health industry to enrol in these qualifications.
# Students must already hold a Certificate III or higher level qualification
% Students must hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher related to working with families and children
^ Students must hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in early childhood education and care

What is a skill set and why should I consider undertaking one?

A Skill Set is a single unit of competency, or combination of units of competency, from one or more training packages that link to a licence or regulatory requirement, or defined industry need. Skill Sets help people top up their existing knowledge and skills. Students who successfully complete all requirements of a Skill Set will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills Program a participant must:

  • not hold, or be undertaking, a Certificate level IV or higher qualification
  • be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Queensland
  • have finished secondary school or no longer at school
  • be aged 15 years or above.

How much will it cost?

  • A student co-contribution fee is required for all qualifications.
  • The cost is charged at a unit of competency level so the price will vary depending on the course you enrol in and your individual circumstances.

The full fee applicable to you will be invoiced once you are accepted in to the program. A $100 deposit is required to confirm your enrolment. Flexible payment plans are available to pay for the remaining balance across the duration of your studies.

A contribution to the cost of training and assessment services called a co-contribution fee must be made by students undertaking a program under Higher Level Skills

As vocational placement is a requirement of all courses, students must obtain a Police Certificate (national search of criminal history using name only). The cost of this is included in the co-contribution fee.
